It has become a GAYLA week tradition that new brothers are invited to create a banner that reflects the theme of that year’s conference.  Over the succeeding years many of the banners were beginning to show signs of deterioration as a result of their age, haphazard display and storage.

At the Coordinators' request a group of brothers volunteered in the summer of 2007 to undertake the restoration of the banners. Over the winter months banners were lovingly restored and provided matching fabric backing with sleeves for dowels so they could hang proudly for many GAYLA weeks to come.  In July, 2008 the restored banners hung once again in resplendent glory in a newly-renovated GAYLA Theatre at Ferry Beach.

Jim McArthur worked tirelessly with MidWest Embroidery in Kansas City, MO to complete the full restoration at no cost.  Jim also took pictures to mark the progress of the 30 banners.  Thanks as well to Ron King and Tom Malone who assisted with the task of preserving this part of our history at Ferry Beach.  Enjoy a look back at 30 years of brotherhood reflected in fabric!
